The Lordship of Jesus Christ in The Family

A successful Family just like a successful marriage takes time, commitment, study and focus. Christ is the head of the body. God has been preparing us for his Lordship since the beginning of time. God’s word spans all time so that we are prepared no matter when we are born, or when Christ may return.

If you will indulge me for a moment I would like to begin with a few words from Jesus Christ.

Matt 5:17

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the words of the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. (abound/complete/leave nothing wanting)

As the bridge between God and man, as well as Old Testament law and a new administration governed by the grace of God and a new kind of love. Jesus was about to turn the world right side up!

John 9:39

And Jesus said for judgement I am come into this world, that they which see not, might see; and that they which see might be made blind.

Jesus came to introduce mankind to a new way of seeing God, themselves, and the world around them. Not with their five senses, but with spiritual depth and perception. With new light.

John 9:46

I am come a light into the world that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. (tarry, continue, be held captive)

For us to maintain The Lordship of Jesus Christ in our families today it is going to require a willingness to change what we thought we knew, some re-writes, some humility, and a meekness to keep the written word of God first in your heart. Let’s look at a few very important needs.

Continuous prayer – The word encourages us in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, to pray without ceasing. This deepens our individual relationship, and devotion to God. There is no prayer too big or too small for a Father that loves his children.

Make God your 1st stop on a daily basis. Daily is the minimum required to be a disciple. You must seek to know the written word first. Ask, Seek, and Knock then watch the word open up to you. Matt 6:33, 7:7-8, Phil 4:6-7

We are to pray in the spirit and with our understanding. This builds your comfort, and increases your honesty, 1 Cor 14:15 Pray alone and with your family. Pray with and for each other. 1 Peter 3:12. James 5:16

Pray for Knowledge and wisdom. You cannot properly steward a family without it! Colo 1:9-10

    • Check Your ExpectationsRom 15:4 What does the word say? Does this apply to me? Is this my motivation and Practice? Psalm 143:10 Is this your true desire?  Let’s test it. Mark 10:4-8 What was God’s will, what was his true intent? Micah 6:6-8. What does the word say that God requires? “O man” means mankind, both men and women. There are so many differences in us as men, as women, in cultures, in nations, in traditions and beliefs. We are too quick to judge, and pick apart diversities, likes, dislikes. It only brings bitterness, mistrust, and division. 1 Pet 4:8-10 This is how we conduct ourselves in the body of Christ.

There are Commandments to Husbands (8) and Wives (2) Eph 5:22-33 God designed the marriage relationship to be an example of how the body of Christ is to function. By proper arrangement and deliberate decision.

1 Pet 3: 1-12 Both of you have a say in how this is to proceed, but having an endocrine system try to take over the mind, or a fist in rage blackening the eye of your own flesh makes the entire body diseased! We all have our place and function. We represent Christ here on earth. They will know us by our love.  Rom 5:5.

Parents withChildren Gen 18:19 command (set in order), Deut 11:19 teach, Ephesians 6:4 “Ye Fathers” means nearest ancestor or both parents. Together they are toraise them in the ways and will of God. This is the true expectation for those who choose to have children.

Children obey Eph 6:1-3, Colo 3:20.

    • Godly Communication – Once we confess Jesus Christ as Lord of our Lives some things should stand out about us. This is one of those categories. Eph 4:29-32. We speak the truth in Love Eph 4:15 This is part of our growing up in Christ. We are not hypocrites who have separate rules for children than we do for adults Mark 7:6-8. We can control our tongues, our tone, and our volume Prov 15:1-5. The gift of holy spirit has made all this possible through the accomplishments of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Rom 8:26. We don’t save our kindest voice for our bosses. This belongs to our husbands, our wives, and our children. They are the body of Christ. It’s time to level up! 1 Tim 6:17-19

We have strength together and Satan knows it. He wants us divided, fighting over small things, hating one another, intolerant, and full of pride and envy. Acts 2:42, Matt 18:19-20. Agreement is a powerful spiritual weapon against the enemy.

Finally, our number of days on this earth have not been given to us. The exact day we shall leave is not known to any. So, remember Laughter and Merriment are good for every soul. It decreases pain, relaxes tension in your muscles, lowers our stress hormones, and stimulates our heart, lungs, and circulation. Prov 15:13, Prov 17:22, Eccl 8:15

Ephesians 3:17-21 For the Lordship of Jesus Christ in the Family
